Deanna,
I wish you the best. My advice from personal experience. Just get as low as you can then jump. Take a week off from work and take it easy. I"ve been playing the 1/2mg to 1/4 to 1/2 to 1/4 game for a year now. I've done a lot of research about Sub and read many articles from PHDs. This stuff binds so tight to the receptor that even naloxone can't kick it off. When you take a low dose it doesn't reach all the receptors and that WD you feel is the unhappy receptors screaming for Sub. Its makes sense I never feel right at .25. Everytime you dose it doesn't necessarily hit the same receptors and you get stuck in this loop. Think about it. It makes perfect sense otherwise we would all just taper off slowly into the sunset. |

Hey woman, My advice from personal experience is to take your time and jump when YOU'RE ready. But you know that gig already.
Very cool that your dad's getting better. How cool is it to be able to do all that stuff without chasing our DOC??!! Maybe it's a good thing the job isn't starting right away, kind of like a sign that you're where you're supposed to be in the scheme of things. Kinda cool thinking that way anyways. How are YOU????? Beam hug to you and all the beams you need! -Mary

Hi Mary! You know, you and I think alike! I was just telling my Dad he needed to hurry up and get better, so that Karma would give me my job!! I am happy to say he got out of the hospital yesterday and is doing much much better.
![]() I had a few hard days, where I thought about drinking a beer, and how using would make it all go away for a while, but you know, right after that thought, I was very thankful that I dont need that anymore in my life. I am very fortunate to have all of you here, and to have strength to realize that this way of living is a zillion times better than the old way. To me, it is empowering to be able to say I dont need any drugs or alcohol to handle the tuff stuff. I went to the doctors last Tuesday and I decided to just stay at 2mg for a while. Seems like that is where I am most comfortable right now. Im not in any rush to jump. When it happens, it happens. Right now Im every day learning to handle different stressors, and things that set me off on my "evil" thinking patterns, and I figure the time will be right when none of that shit even bothers me or crosses my mind for a second. Yea, I know the thoughts will always be there for the rest of my life, but when the thoughts arent so raw is when I know Ill be ready. Well, thats all for now. Getting ready for the gym, and I promised my Dad i'd make him some of my AWESOME home-made chicken noodle soup ![]() Deanna

I know Nancy!!! Isnt it crazy!!! I couldnt believe it when the union rep called me yesterday! People will probably think Im making this up....but nope it really did happen! Like I said in the morning thread, recovery is beautiful. Its awesome how when you keep trying and trying and never give up things get rewarded to you in one way or another. Im a firm believer in karma, and also God. Life is good, no matter the stuff that comes my way. Ill just take it head on, deal with the tuff stuff, and believe that all will work out.
"See" ya Saturday!!...Deanna

Hello! Well that job only lasted a short time! Oh, well. It was so smokin hot in there. It was a steel mill and we were up about 100 ft welding on an overhead crane. It was 125 degrees where I was, the safety man said. I thought I sweat alot at the gym, holy shit, this was aweful! But, I made some good money, we worked 12 hrs a day, and now Im waiting on that big call that will take me through the rest of my career. It will all work out, I just know it. Deanna

Hi Deanna, I have to laugh with Mary, that raisin remark cracked me up! Good thing you're not there shrivelled! Haven't heard anything about anyone making lower doses. I looked around and no mention anywhere. It would be so nice if someone would do that. Last I heard was the mention about the listerine-like strip after people took part in the market research thing, but nothing recently.
How's your dad? How are you? Nancy

Hello! Im good! Feeling good, working out all the time
. I went to visit my parents yesterday and my Dad sure looks great! He is doing really good now. His blood pressure is 118/78 now compared to before the open heart when it was 178/120!!! Its gonna take him a long time to get all his strength back, but he should be good for when they go back to Florida for the winter. They leave in October. My husband went to the doctors the other day and the doc was getting on his case about the fact that hes been on sub for almost two years. Hes worried that he will try and rush him off. He goes to the same office as me but I have a different doctor. Mine says as long as it takes he will be there for me and help me and will never leave me hanging. I dont understand why his doctor is acting this way. His doctor gave him a script of 45- 8mg pills to taper really slowly, and hes on 3mg a day right now, so hopefully it works out, if not maybe he can see my doctor?. But, other than that, life is good...besides the no job thing, but that will be soon!!! See ya!! Deanna SUGAR- Youve wrote in my thread before, so if you happen to read this, Im sorry to hear about your relapse. I read it in your personal thread. Im really glad you came back, and you are ok. Take care. ![]()

Hey deanna,
I am so happy to hear that you are doing well and that your dad is also getting better. That must be a huge relief to you! I laughed when you mentioned your job working in 125 degree weather, saying that if it lasted any longer you would have shriveled up like a raisin. That would NOT be good!!! lol It still amazes me, that you are a welder and there is NO way you could get me up 100 ft welding on an overhead crane. That is insane!! Do you ever get scared??? I am sure that you are harnassed well, just in case you slip, but it still has to be pretty scary. Especially in that heat, everything would be slippery from sweating so much. Working in that heat would be really difficult, to put it mildly. To top it off with 12 hour shifts just leaves me in awe of you and how strong you are. I bet you sleep well at the end of a day like that!!! I know you really want to work, but I bet you were happy that job did not last too long. I think you would have had more problems than shrivelling up like a raisin!! Working in that heat would put you in danger of heat stroke, and that can be deadly!! It's good that you got through the job without any problems. I am such a wimp, I know I would have quit after one shift IF I even made it through that!!!! lol You are doing really well with your taper and I am glad that you are not rushing or setting any deadlines for yourself. It sounds like you have an awesome doctor which seems really rare, after reading so many horror stories of bad Sub docs. Maybe the next time you see him, you can ask him if he would take on your husband. It does not make sense after 2 years his doc would all of a sudden want him off. I don't know how you feel about having the same doc, but if he is as good as you say, then I am sure he would be professional enough not to talk to either of you about the others recovery. You are both doing so well and it does not make any sense at all to me, that your husbands Sub doc would even consider putting his recovery at risk by forcing him off Sub before he is ready!! It was good to hear from you. When do you start work again?? I hope for your sake, that is in airconditioning or at least not as hot by time you start! Enjoy your time off! It sounds like your next job will be your 'career' job and you may not get time off again for a while. I am so happy for you, sounds like life is good for you right now. I am off work for the summer also, and am not doing much because we have to save our money for our daughter's wedding in September. We had planned to do some travelling but plans changed when we found out how much this wedding is going to cost us. I am still not quite sure how we are going to pay for it all, but it will work out. My husband is also starting a new job next week which is awesome because he will not have to travel and will be home more (used to be only home on weekends). It is so good to be in recovery. This is the first summer in years that I have not been high on oxycontin. I was a little worried about that, because summers have always been the time that my addiction sky rocketed. It's really nice to be enjoying the summer instead of running around looking for pills which would always consume most of my day, every day! Recovery is good! Keep in touch, it's always good to hear from you, Lizzy |

Hi Lizzy! Ive been in the skilled trades for over 10 years, so Im used toworking in all types of weather
. you kinda have to get "in the zone" as they say when you're working in the air up high. We work out of man lifts most of the time, so it is actually pretty fun. The only sucky part is when its really windy and the lift is rocking back and forth...that gets scary.About my husbands doctor, I have seen him before when mine wasnt there, and I really liked him, but I think the reason why he wants my husband off sub after two years, is his addiction was only "bad" for about ONE year. So he thinks, hey you've been on sub for twice as long as oxycontin, so now you're just abusing the sub. I can understand his point, and honestly, my husband doesnt work on recovery, like me, he just takes the sub and nothing else. Me on the other hand, I had an 8 year love affair with oxycontin, and its taking me a little longer to get my brain fixed ![]() . I work a decent recovery program, and come here. But, honestly I dont think my husbands doctor is leave him hanging, and if he does, he can just roll over to my doctor. At least I think so anyways. And about you.....your first summer in recovery! Yay! I wrote you back about that the last time you wrote me in this thread. mine was last summer, and I couldnt even imagine cutting the grass without being high, and here I am, cutting the lawn twice a week, just drinking my energy drink!!! All things are possible, if you believe in yourself. But...you already know that!!! Good for you Lizzy! And good luck with the wedding! Deanna

Hi Deanna, good to hear that your dad is doing well! What a relief. That's kind of strange that your husband's doctor is pushing a taper. But, maybe he's looking to see if that gives him the incentive to at least try, maybe he thinks he may have fallen into a routine or complacency? I would hope that if he can't do it right now, the doctor won't just cut him loose. Hopefully he'll keep in contact with the doctor and let him know what's going on and if it's too fast.
I'm glad life is good. You deserve it. ![]() Nancy

Hi Nancy! Yea, I think thats what his doctor has in mind, to get him more motivated to work on getting off sub, not just taking it day after day and not working at recovery. Hes been on the same dose for a year (?). And the fact like I mentioned that he has been on sub twice as long as he was on oxycontin. We will see what happens, but I dont think he will be left without medication, honestly.
Good to hear from you! Dad is still doing great, and my son is still powerlifting. Hes lookiing for a part time job also. And me, Im still waiting...waiting....waiting See ya! Deanna

Hi Deanna, how's your husband doing, did he reduce his dose at all yet? It is good that he has options, will take some pressure off I bet. How's the job hunting for your son? That's great that he's still lifting - any more competitions lately?
You have the patience of a saint with this waiting, waiting, waiting for that job to start! Hopefully soon. Feels like I've said that alot! Maybe they're waiting for it to cool down a little so you can avoid the raisin look. hahahaContinued good health for your dad! ![]() Nancy

Hi Nancy! My husband has been taking 3 mg a day still, he's trying his best I think. And my son did get a job that he starts at the end of August at a local meat market around the corner. Im happy for him! hes not going to get in any more competitions until the fall. There are some big ones then.
I still have been waiting on that job. Ive been practicing some different welding techniques, and I have to take a stainless steel welding test on Wednesday. I feel pretty confident about it. I figure the more credentials Ihave, the better. have a great weekend! Next week I go to the doctors and will talk to him about lowering my dose....we will see how it goes!!! Hi OMIKE! Thanks for thinking of my Dad, hes doing great!!!

Hi Deanna, hopefully your husband will at least give it a try to reduce down a little. 3mg has got to be a pain to get out of an 8mg pill - you'd think he'd try 2mg just for the ease of cutting an 8mg just into quarters. lol Just thinking of little ways that might help psyche him into giving it a try. BUT, there's not much anyone can except for him when it comes down to it. Hopefully he'll just give it a try though to see.
That's great about your son finding a job so quickly. I hope he likes it and the extra cash! Is he increasing the weight he's lifting for the next competition, I think you said he talked about that at one point? Good for you for expanding your welding skills. Is SS hard to weld? Would that be more of a cosmetic weld as well as practical? I guess I'm thinking more of SS things like tables like in restaurant kitchens and truck accessories. Good luck with the test, I'm sure you'll do great. What are you thinking of lowering your dose to? If you're ready, you're ready. I sound like a broken record sometimes...Glad your dad is doing great. Hopefully the big job call will be soon. Maybe they're waiting for summer to wind down? Have a great weekend Deanna! Nancy

Hi Nancy! Well, my husband takes 4 mg one day and then 2mg the next, so it equals out to 3 I suppose. I dont know why the doctor doesnt give him the 2mg ones...thats what my doctor does. When I go next week Im only planning on going to 1.5, so that means I will take 2mg one day and then 1 mg the next. Now that Ive been pretty comfortable on the Paxil, maybe it will be easier. A lot of it is just mental at this point IMO, for me. My son looked for a while for a job, they are so hard to come by. His grandpa (on his Dads side) knows the manager at the meat market, so that helped him! Its only 1 day a week to start, but its better than nothin!
Yes, stainless is a lot harder to weld. The welding Im practicing is for BIG stuff. Like stainless steel hoppers that hold liquid or whatever, or out at refineries that hold petroleum. We only mess with the BIG steel ![]() ! For the test, we have to fuse together 2 plates that are 6 inches long and then they put them in a machine and bend them. if they survive the bend without any tears in the metal then it passes. You also cannot have any inpurities in the metal called "slag" from welding. Its really pretty interesting when you think how elecricity will melt metal, and you are fusing 2 different pieces of it into one! Cool!!!Well, I gotta read some more, and then head to the gym! Have a great weekend Nancy!

Hey Deanna! Sounds like everything is going good for you! Really, you are an amazing woman for lots of reasons-first because you took the reins in your hands and went into recovery full force and you are still driving that team! You have educated yourself so you are living recovery in a way that works for you! You understand that medication is such a tiny part of the recovery process and you have put it in its proper place all along the path.
You celebrate recovery. It is so clear in all of your posts the "peace" that you have found now that you are living addiction-free. You accept the challenges of life and face them head on and look for, and find, solutions. And I also have to say that it amazes me to think of you with the welding headgear on and that hot torch thing melting metal! Good luck with the SS test, and remember, no "slag". I think that might even be a better slogan than remember, choose good. ha ha ha Have a great weekend! nan |

Hey, thanks for thinking of me, Deanna!! I'm glad to hear that your dad is doing better, that is a great thing. I hope he's well today!!
Why does your husband's doctor want to push him off the sub? I don't know, I feel like the amount of time spent on sub should directly relate to the amount of time spent on a substance. Like, I used opiates for almost two years and was on Subs for 18 months. I feel like if your husband used for a few years, being on Sub for at least that long is no big deal. It takes awhile to reprogram your brain, as well as to learn new lifestyle habits ... subs are great for that. I'm back on the wagon again and living well. New opportunities on the horizon - my career can take me anywhere now that I don't have anything keeping me here (trapping me). I've got a good amount of money saved, more than I've ever had in my entire life. You're so right - life really IS good!! You just have to reach out and take it. Keep up the awesome work, Deanna!! I appreciate you, lady!! xo Sugar |

Sugar!!! Im so glad to hear from you and glad you are doing good!!! Thanks for replying back. About my husband...he was on Oxys for about a year, and he's been on sub now for almost TWO years, so thats why the doctor wants him to start tapering off. Hopefully he will start working harder at it. I think he's just become too comfortable knowing he always has suboxone, and hasnt really tried to do anything else for his recovery (no tools in the toolbox so to speak). Me, Im getting there, I was on Oxys for 8 yrs or so, and been on sub for almost 2, so it may take me longer than I thought. Im not rushing myself, Ive done some damage I know, so slow and steady for me. Im at 2mg, and i want to drop in small amounts, like .5 every month now. We will see how it goes. Im going to the doctors tomorrow.
Take care Sugar, and stop back more often!!!! ![]() Deanna

I hope the (a) job begins soon! I hope your husband is doing well. Just reassure him that he can do it and that it's OK if it takes time, it's about quality, not speed. Have a GREAT weekend! Mike

Hey woman, very cool that your dad is doing good! What up with you? Still going to the gym and waiting for the new gig? Maybe they're waiting for labor day to start you. Holy shit, a stainless steel test! I bet you passed but just don't think you passed. How's hubby doing? Yeah, a pagan. Kind of the nature, druid celtic thing. LOL I'm just not into the whole mass religion type thing. But, hey what works for everyone works for them.
Do you think your new gig will be in the casino? (I read your good morning thread post, or maybe I'm psychic or psycho? LOL) How's your son doing, when's he go back to school, what grade? Guess it's not psychic... Annnnnyways, wanted to say hey. Been a while. Beam hugs my friend! -Mary

Hey Deanna, I know that welding stainless is a different beast. Stay positive and if you have to take it over, so what, like they say, just do it! lol .......... I have a grill trailer to build out between now and 9/18, so I can use it on 9/19. I can spot weld some, but whew, it isn't very pretty and takes some grinding afterwards to make it look decent! haha
It's great though that you keep expanding your capabilities, that can open a lot of doors for you in time! Have a wonderful Sunday! Mike

Hi guys!
hey mary! all is good with me, yea, still going to the gym, about 5 days a week, and still waiting on the job. This economy sucks. Thank goodness for unemployment! I think its really cool that you are a pagan. I read a few books a few years back about Wicca and I really thought it was cool. I should have stuck with learning about it, I think it was back when nothing really mattered but oxys if ya know what I mean. My son starts school on the 23rd, he will be a senior this year! Wow, time flies. i can remember sending him on the bus for kindergarten and crying when he left, now hes all grown up.! Im still at 2mg, but this next month Im gonna be going down a bit, like 2,1,2,1 for the month. My husband is still at 3mg, he's having a hard time going lower right now for some reason. But, hey, we all know everybodys different, so whenever it happens, it happens. Good to hear from you woman!!! Dont be such a stranger....you've got some great knowledge and ideas to share around here!!!! Hey Mike! I know what you mean about using that grinder!!! With stainless tests, they let you use one during it,(thank god) but on carbon steel, no grinders, no wire wheels, nothing. Im thinking the results will be in tomorrow or Tuesday....Ill let ya know what the outcome is! See ya !

Hi Deanna, did you hear about your test results, it is Monday! lol
That's another good skill to add to your resume I would think. Awww, your baby is a senior! Is he liking his job? Hopefully he'll get more hours as time goes on if wants. There aren't very many jobs around here either. You used to see 'Help Wanted' signs in all the stores; but not any more. Sounds like a good plan with the alternating 2 and 1 mg. Sorry your husband is having a little bit of a hard time, is he trying to go too fast? Well, I have my fingers crossed you passed the test and you'll be getting THE call soon for the job!! ![]() Nancy

Hi Nancy! No test results yet....is that good or bad?
i asked at the hall this morning and they werent in yet. Maybe tomorrow....My son didnt start the job yet, he got it, but wont start until the college kids go back to school, which is when he goes back too I suppose. He is replacing one of the college kids. I did talk to the boss thats supposed to hire me and he said as soon as they get some ironwork, I will be starting!! I was glad to hear from him, because this will be a full time position....no more layoffs. Guess i just have to play the waiting game. All good things come to those who wait as they say! My husband isnt really having a hard time with the taper, hes just not really motivated to taper. he said its all in his head that he cant go any lower. he even says he waits until later in the morning to take it until he "feels like shit" and then takes it. I said to him....oh come on, you know the medicine stays in your system for 3 days! And he says, yea, I know, like I said its all in my head. So, I dont know, I cant force him to go lower. I guess when he's ready he's ready. And for me, Im just gonna keep on moving like a turtle on my taper too! ![]() ![]() Nice talking to you Nancy! I'll let ya know if I bombed out on the stainless test!

Hi Deanna, sorry to read that you didn't pass the SS test.
Yikes, 2 out of 18 passed. But you have a great attitude and, hey, you're right, if at first you don't succeed. Did they let you know what you need to work on so you have an idea what to practice?Great news about hearing from the boss!! Let the ironwork begin, right? ![]() Ah, ok. So your son should be starting fairly soon. I can't believe it's past the middle of August already... That's good your husband is the one who said it's all in his head. lol When he's ready, he'll be ready. I talked with someone the other day who said that at a meeting they went to, there was a person who stopped at around 24mg (she did a small taper, but not really a planned one or anything) after 2 years. She didn't have the money for her doctor's appointment, and she ran out. She's about 2 weeks off and her only complaint was that her legs hurt! Then when she went to the doctor after she got enough money for the appointment, the doctor didn't want to prescribe to her because she was 5 days off without problems. It's just amazing how everyone is different. I guess she didn't have time to really think about it? But then again it kind of sounds like what Lou1 did. Go up to a high dose and just let it wear off. I just found that interesting when you mentioned that your husband said it's all in his head. lol Wow, what a digression, sorry! Well, you know your TurtleTaper is what's right for YOU and that's all that matters! You're doing great, have the right attitude, even with the tough things you've been experiencing with your dad's health and being unemployed. You are an inspiration Deanna. ![]() Nancy

Hey woman, looks like we were psychic (or psycho?) posting twins in that other thread! Love it! Hey, that sucks that you have to take the stainless test over, but with all those people who have, it must have been a bitch of a test. Come on ironwork gig. Very cool you talked to the guy though so you know you're gonna get that call. You don't look old enough to have a senior in HS.
However the taper goes, the taper goes. That was my one my biggest things that made it easier just knowing I wasn't forced and could do it when I wanted to type deal. So the TurtleTaper (LOLOL) it is!The pagan thing is just what it is I guess. Don't like the whole big church and organizational hierarchy and all that. So I do my own thing and celebrate the solstices and just the whole beauty of things. Or maybe it's just the artist in me. LOL I keep saying I won't be a stranger. Life gets in the way sometimes. Like keeping my gig going. It was kinda funky around here the past few days too, so I wanted to keep a low profile if you know what I mean. I was sneaking in to see if you got your test back though. Well I gotta jet. Have to talk to a client in 10 minutes. Better get my shit together so I know what he's looking at when he tells me stuff to change! Wanted to say hey. Kind of lost track of time reading some stuff. Beam hugs my friend! -Mary

Thanks for stopping in this thread Mary and Nancy!!! It really helps me and makes me feel good that people care about my success with addiction remission! ![]()

Hi Deanna, just wondering if you've heard about the job yet? I read you're still at 2 and is it this week you're going to start alternating? You'll do great! I just know it.
![]() Hope you're having a good weekend! Nancy

Hi Nancy! Yep, starting tomorrow Im gonna give it a try! Im sure it will be fine, its only .5 right?
. And, Yes, I did hear about the job. Its going to be soon, they wont give me a date, but he did say he has me set to work at a refinery thats only about 10 minutes from my house, so that will be nice. Boy, this has been a tough year for construction. I have thought numerous times about just giving up and finding a different career, like going back to working in the hospital drawing blood, but I keep holding out. Im vested with a pension through the ironworkers, so I hate to give that up.Well, Ill keep ya posted on my taper deal! Hope all is good with you Nancy! ![]()

Hi Deanna, how's the alternating going? I'm sure you're not even noticing it?
![]() Wow, 10 minutes from your house would be fabulous! I'm keeping my fingers crossed you hear for sure sooner than later. You have the patience of a saint! I don't blame you for holding out - you have a lot at stake with your pension that would be hard to walk away from. School start yet for your son? How's your husband doing, any progress with his taper? Come on phone call to start working!! ![]() Nancy

No worries Deanna!
My prayers are with you. Try not to let the brain rule how you feel. In other words let life happen around you and do not invite problems with "is this a WD symptom?" we naturally get aches and pains and anxiety from time to time-let it go! God bless Glen |

Hi Deanna! I think September will be your lucky month. I can't believe 2 years almost! Woo hoo! How great! I think you'll have the same answer about your alternating in a week - not noticing a thing. Hopefully, these are you last few days unemployed and you'll be working after Labor Day, which would be Tuesday. lol
Love hearing from you Deanna! Nancy

Hey Deanna! Yes, it's got to be soon for you to get that call!! Fingers crossed.
Wow! No difference in the taper - GREAT! You know, you could give 1mg a try and see what happens. Like you said, you can always go back on and back down from there. Having that attitude also doesn't put any pressure on yourself whatsoever, which always helps. Thanks! You have a great weekend too! ![]() Nancy

Hi deanna! Oh boy, it is sounding good! You have such a great attitude and are being so smart about the whole recovery deal! If you don't go back to work soon and keep going to the gym you are going to "disappear". Glad to hear all is going well in the taper department. You are definitely putting it all in its proper perspective, but I knew you would. Gosh, 2 years, how great is that????!!!! Hope you get the back to work call soon.
